Max Weber, (1881-1961), was a leading figure in the development of a modern art world in the United States.
Born in Russia, Weber studied art in Europe before setting and New York where he became a very prominent figure in the budding modern art scene there.
Weber’s works are held in major institutions around the world.
This work is a quintessential cubist style work on bronze of a reclining female form created in 1915. In this work Weber conveys in this work his feelings and influences of the revolutionary art he was exposed to while studying in Europe, including cubism, dynamism, expressionism, and futurism.
This sculpture was created in the very beginnings of the modern art movement in New York City.
