Zahara Schatz – Kinetic Sculpture
Zahara (Zohara) Schatz, (1916 – 1999), was progressive female artist, designer, and educator from Israel, and the daughter of Israeli artist Boris Schatz who founded the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem.
During her lifetime Zahara lived, created and taught in Jerusalem, Israel; Paris, France; New York, NY; Big Sur, California and Berkeley, California.
Zahara exibited at the most prestigious of venues including the Venice Biennale, the Milan Triennale, where she won and award, and the Museum of Modern Art where she won an award in 1951 for her table lamp design.
This work is a kintetic sculpture consisting of a shaped aluminum rod, with a shaped wooded disc balanced on a lead weighted wooden base.
The design is magestic and the extremely light weight of the aluminum rod and wooden disc allow the piece to move freely.
Measures 20 inches tall by 21.5 inches wide by 13 inches wide overall.
